Google X Pier 57
Custom Software, Projectors, Lights, Infared Cameras
Spectra Studio collaborated with Google to reengineer the interactive projection system at Google’s Pier 57 in New York City.
Working closely with Google’s teams, we simulated the entire projection, camera, and mounting plan. Spectra’s PrimeFrame™ software calculated the exact positions and lenses required for the 30+ projectors and cameras.
This bird’s-eye view of the ground allows the system to locate visitors as they move up the ramp, enabling the visuals to respond in real time to their movement, such as parting clouds or creating ripples across the floor projection.
Because the wall resolution increased substantially, simply scaling up the existing content was not an option. This created an opportunity to revisit the original design intent and re-realize the vision with greater clarity, fidelity, and flexibility for the design teams. Our in-house design and engineering team developed generative, constantly evolving, real-time interactive visuals.
